Barcelona Chair Collection

Barcelona Chair was created for the German Pavilion at the 1929 International Exhibition, hosted that year by Spain in Barcelona. It was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich. The chair was first used in Villa Tugendhat, building that is one of the first representations of modern architecture and was also designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

Today, Barcelona Collection includes chairs, stools and sofas and they represent iconic items in interior design worldwide.

In 1950 the production method was change so that the frame would be formed by a seamless piece of metal. Since 1953 Barcelona Chairs are manufactured by Knoll Inc using two steel configurations, chrome and stainless. Each chair still has the signature of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

Barcelona Chair is mainly used in modern, even minimalist interior designes.
